Coming Up: A Photo Trip to Italy

NOTE: We will be spending the entire month of October and early November in Italy. Even though it's not a trip in the Ciaowagen, we're hoping to share images and news of the trip in blog posts on this website. If you're only interested in RV blog posts, feel free to ignore the Italy posts.

We've shared in the past how most of our blog photos are taken on Doug's iPhone. Those photo skills have been honed through several online courses we've taken from the iPhone Photography School. One of these courses, on landscape photography, was shot in the Dolomites, a mountain range in northern Italy. As you can see, the landscape there is dramatic and gorgeous!

This is a screen capture from the webpage advertising the IPS course.

Taking the course got us thinking about visiting the Dolomites ourselves, and perhaps taking an in-person photo course there. After some research, we identified a course offered by Wild Photography Holidays, which organizes trips all over the world, and signed up. The WPH course runs from October 11-19.

If the first picture didn't want to make us go to the Dolomites, this one certainly did!

Since we haven't been to Italy since 2014, we've decided to add some other elements to the trip and make five weeks of it. These will include:

Before the Course

  • Milan, visiting our former au pair Paola Olivero and her family

  • Lake Como (we're still hoping George Clooney will invite us to stay at his villa...)

After the Course

  • Venice (the photo course leaves from and returns to the Venice airport, so we'll already be in the area)

  • Siena (in Tuscany)

  • Villa Scontrone (in Abruzzo), the village Jeannette's grandfather Antonio Melone left in the early 20th century to come to America

  • Rome (probably focusing on the Vatican area)

  • Ostia Antica (the main port at the height of the Roman Empire, with ruins discovered only eight years ago)

We'd love to have you follow along on our adventures. Stay tuned for blog entries!

Have a wonderful journey! (Lugano is where, 43 years ago, we bought my engagement ring! and Balzano is a treat!)
