The Future of Ciaowagen Travel

Updated: Mar 27, 2022

When we bought the Ciaowagen, we said to ourselves "We'll travel for a year. It'll be great!"

It was great - so much so that between April 2019 and November 2021, we'd spent 25 of those 31 months on the road. A lot longer than a year.

Although future plans could change, for now we're moving past the era of all-Ciaowagen-all-the-time.

We're not getting rid of the Ciaowagen. However, we expect future years to include perhaps one 3- or 4-month adventure plus some shorter trips sprinkled throughout the year. For example, we're planning to spend May-July 2022 exploring the Canadian maritime provinces and the two weeks around Easter 2022 at Carolina beaches.

A lot of this is driven by the fact that we have some bucket-list overseas travel in our sights and, unfortunately, our "land yacht" doesn't actually float.

First up, in February and March 2022, we're taking a cruise to Antartica, the Falklands, and South Georgia Island, followed by a visit to Patagonia in Chile. More about that closer to the time! Further out on the horizon, we are thinking about immersing ourselves in the Italian Dolomites and perhaps the Italian lake district. A family friend has recently moved to Copenhagen and wetted our appetite for a return visit to Denmark and to explore other Scandinavian countries as well. While we are young (at heart) and in good health, we might as well make the most of it!

We will use this website to share our experiences on some of those non-Ciaowagen trips, in addition to our future Ciaowagen expeditions - who knows, the Ciaowagen may make its way to a city near you!
